A large crowd attended a Piano and Organ Concert

Sunday, December 17 (2017) in our church sanctuary.  The performers were Steve Lee (organist) and Janie McDowell (pianist).  Narrators were Mike and Cori Copeland.  





"Saved by the Bells" choir, under the direction of Joshua Livesay,  performed several Christmas songs in the morning service (12-17-17).

Our annual March to the Manger (12-17-17) had Baby Jesus (Malia Otey),  Mary (Mindy Otey),  Joseph (Christopher Otey),  Shepherds (Grant and Jackson Otey),  and Three Wise Men (Bill Book, Ken Otey, and Shawn Otey).

“The Greatest Gift”


 "Saved by the Bell" handbell choir performed during the morning worship service Sunday (8/27/17).  There are 14 ringers under the direction of Josh Livesay.  They did an excellent job!


Diane Robinson (center) was recognized Sunday morning (8/6/17) for serving as the Church Treasurer for the past 15 years. Making a presentation to her were Pastor Donna and church official Ken Otey.  Thank you, Diane!

David Woods sang "How Great Thou Art" during the Sunday morning worship service (7-30-17).  Linda Short accompanied him on piano.  Thanks David and Linda!

 Barbara Rumbold sang "My Friend" during the morning worship service Sunday (7/16/17).  Also during the service, the congregation participated in an Order of Farewell for members Stephen and Barbara Rumbold, and Wes Reynolds.  Wes is moving to Fort Myers, Florida, and Stephen and Barbara are relocating near family in Colorado.  God speed!

Over 40 Kids attended the Easter Kids Night on 4/9/17! Bible Story, Craft,
Egg Hunt and Dinner was enjoyed by all! Thank you to all who helped as well! 


Our church provides volunteers each month to work at the Clothes Line.  Several in attendance at the store's annual dinner (4-6-17)  were (l-r) Linda Hodges, Pat Gale, Raymonda Wise, Nancy Hallam, Kathy and Dave Land.  Nancy was recognized for working the most hours last year among all volunteers!

Our annual March to the Manger took place Sunday morning (12/18/16).  The Christmas offering this year has been designated for renovations at the United Methodist Children's Home in Mt. Vernon.

Ella Gonzales sang "Hope Has Come" as special music Sunday morning (12/18/16).


Our choir, orchestra, narrator, and director (Tom Tucker) on December 11th performing "A Child is Born."  280 were in attendance!

Janie McDowell was our pianist with assistance from Linda Monge!

Elaine Wilson was outstanding on the harp!


Helping to decorate the sanctuary and education building this year were (l-r) Tom and Janice Tucker, Ken and Rita Otey, and Dave and Kathy Land.  Our sanctuary tree and choir loft were decorated by Gary and Nancy Hallam.  Cheryl Holmes put up the tree in the Fellowship Hall.  Our outside nativity scene was handled by Bill Book, Clifford Reever, Ken Otey, and Dave Land.  Also, Marty Cox and Donna Reever added to our decorations.  Thanks to all!

Bishop Frank Beard spoke to a crowd of 125 Sunday evening (12/4) at our church.  He delivered a very inspiring sermon!


Our children's Christmas program presented on December 4 was "The Secret of Snowflake County" and it was wonderful!  Thanks to all the kids and adults who participated under the direction of Elizabeth Gonzales.

Our float in the Kiwanis Christmas Parade Saturday evening took first place in the Church category!  Thanks to float chairperson Cori Copeland and all who participated!

A Baby Shower was held for Mrs. Doneesha Robinson in our Fellowship Hall Sunday afternoon (11-13-16).  She received many nice gifts for her baby girl expected to arrive in early January!


The Dysart Family from Macon, Missouri, provided music and a message Sunday (9/25/16)!

The family members are parents Lorena and LeWain, Sr., and their children, LeWain II, Kendra, Clayton, Tanner, and Logan.

They reside in Macon, Missouri.

This is their "home away from home!"

Also during the service, 16 young people received bibles as part of Bible Sunday!




The beautiful fall flower arrangement on our altar table (9/11/16) was designed and provided by Marlyn Harrison.  Thank you, Marlyn!


Pictures below are from Ken Otey's trip to Kokomo, Indiana, on Wednesday, September 7, 2016.  He took many donated supplies for tornado victims in that area.

A benefit for Amy Book's work in the Phillipines was held Saturday (5/28/16) at Leo French Park during the Car Show.  Bill Book prepared his delicious fish sandwiches and had lots of help from family and friends!

The Fairfield Lions Club held their annual Star Student banquet Tuesday night (5/3/16). Holden August, son of Brad and Becky August was selected as this year’s Star Student.  Holden Selected Kathy Book as his Elementary School Star Teacher.  For his high school teacher he chose Miss Tammy Austin.  Miss Austin is a veteran FCHS math teacher.  Lions Club officials also named Debbie McKibben, a first grade teacher at Jasper Grade School as their Teacher of the Year.    (picture and story courtesy WFIW)

The Benefit Concert for Fairfield's Midwest Food Bank was a big success Sunday (4/24/16) as 200 attended!
Fairfield's Midwest Food Bank supports ten local food pantries and WADI.  $2,100 was raised!

Three FUMC couples volunteered their services helping World War II and Korean War veterans on their arrival at Evansville Regional Airport from Washington, DC Saturday (4/16) on an Honor Flight.  85 veterans made the trip assisted by many volunteers from the tri-state.  The flight left Evansville around 7 Saturday morning and returned just after 9 that evening.  The next Honor Flight out of Evansville will be October 22.  The mission of the Honor Flight of Southern Indiana is to honor America's Senior Veterans for all of their sacrifices by transporting them to Washington, DC to visit their memorials free of charge.  (Pictured from left to right are Bill & Kathy Book, Dave & Kathy Land, and Ken and Rita Otey).


The Clothes Line held its annual dinner for volunteers Tuesday (4/5/16) at the Geff Ruritan building.  Several from our church attended.  Nancy Hallam won the award for working the most hours last year...199!  Congratulations to Nancy and all 200 volunteers!  Pictured above (l-r) are Linda Hodges, Jan Kent, Nancy Hallam, Kathy & Dave Land.

Congratulations, Donna Reever!

Donna Reever is the recipient of this year’s Fairfield Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award. Reever received the honor Monday (3/14/16) night during the annual meeting of the Chamber, held at the Community of Christ Church in Fairfield. A member of the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, Mrs. Reever was recognized for her volunteer efforts on many fronts – including helping organize a church-wide rummage sale and distributing box fans to the needy during the summer months. Reever is also known for her efforts in organizing the annual Prom Dress giveaway in which more than 300 formal dresses have been provided to area girls.  (Photo and story courtesy WFIW)


During Children's Church Sunday (3/13/16), the lesson was on Jesus's parable on the planting of the seeds.  Teaching the lesson were Cori Coepland and Kathy Land with help from Jamie Jones.


The weather cooperated and some outside and inside work was done at the church Saturday morning (3/12/16).  Organized by Mike Copeland, those that helped besides Mike were Clifford Reever, Ken and Rita Otey, Bill Book, Tom Tucker, Dave Land, Steve Rumbold, Landon Lowery, June Wilson, Beth Tickner, Lisa Vaughan, and Pastor Donna.  Thank you!

Sunday, March 6, 2016, our church had a lunch celebrating 100 Years of Service (Sylvia McDannel, 45 years; Sue Turner, 30 years; Tom Tucker, 25 years).  A big crowd attended this wonderful event!

Our church was well represented at the Community Thanksgiving Service at Ellen Moore United Methodist Church Monday evening (11/23/15).  Pastor Donna was the speaker and Janie McDowell and Steve & Barbara Rumbold presented special music!

Fortress, a 25 member men's vocal ensemble, was in concert Sunday evening (2/15/15) at Fairfield's First United Methodist Church!  Fortress is a part of the music ministry of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Belleville.  Their mixed quartet, 4Given, cellist and pianist Ken Rapini, and Minister of Music Hank Opplinger, was also a part of the evening's performance.  Their music included a mixture of old familiar hymns, Southern Gospel, and inspirational favorites.  The group is composed of a diverse group of occupational backgrounds that includes retired USAF Lieutenant Colonels, teachers, preachers, construction contractors, custodians, and others.

Christmas Eve services (12/24/14) were held at 7 and 11 p.m.  The 7 p.m. Candlelight Service featured the Chancel Choir singing "Come" from the Hope Has Hands cantata.  The 11 p.m. Candlelight Service included Linda Short playing "O Holy Night," special music by Barbara Rumbold accompanied by Janie McDowell, and a service of Holy Communion.  

Sunday (12/21/14) was the Children's Christmas Pageant and March to the Manger.

Our Methodist Men (and help from several ladies) prepared a delicious Thanksgiving meal for the Fairfield Fire Department fire fighters and their families.  Around 70 were served Wednesday evening (12/3/14).  Shown above are (l-r) Ken Otey, Clifford Reever, and Sherrill Bartley.

Bill Book was in charge and did an outstanding job!  He also had help from Wes Reynolds, Tom Tucker, Dave and Kathy Land, Kathy Book, and Rita Otey.

Our annual Thanksgiving Supper was held Sunday evening (11/23) in the Fellowship Hall.   Despite the rainy weather, we had a good number in attendance.  Thanks to Don Brake and his helpers who prepared the turkeys, dressing, mashed potatoes, and dinner rolls. Church members brought a big selection of side dishes and desserts!

And, we had a good number of children in church that morning for the children's message:

Enjoy these photos from the Mother/Daughter Banquet (5-12-14) at our church!  A good crowd attended and a delicious meal was served by the Methodist Men.  Beautiful table and chair decorations were provided by Donna Reever!

Amy Book was the guest speaker.  She told about her mission work in the Philippines.

One of our long time members, Grace Sullivan, will be celebrating her birthday this Wednesday, April 30th!  With her in church Sunday (4/27) were (l-r) Jan Arthur (friend of Pat Spade), Pat (Sullivan) Spade, Mike Sullivan, Grace Sullivan, and Donna Sullivan.

The final Cluster Lenten Service (4/6) was well attended and Methodists certainly enjoy the fellowship and food when we meet!
