“God is ready to overwhelm you with more blessings than you could ever imagine so that you’ll always be taken care of in every way, and you’ll have more than enough to share.” 2 Corinthians 9:8 (The Voice)
This is the hope given to all who follow Jesus. It has truly been the case with our pursuit of moving to Florida. When I began this journey last fall, there seemed to be many obstacles and challenges. I was afraid to have much hope of a move really being possible. But yet I had the nudging from the Holy Spirit that now was the time to move closer to our daughter and her family. A strong unexpected message came, “Check into it NOW.” There were no major health issues happening with Sarah or her family at that time. Yet the message was clear. So I began a journey of exploration, paperwork and meetings with the Florida Conference of the Board of Ordained Ministry. I asked for consideration of an appointment within three hours of Sarah’s home in Port Orange. They seemed reluctant to commit and unsure if they could help. They offered little hope and so I also applied to South Georgia and the Alabama/West Florida Conferences as potential back up plans.
Then things started looking up in February. A couple of possibilities within two hours of Sarah were being discussed for us in Florida. Then in March the Bishop’s Assistant in Florida sent a message that he was really excited about their cabinet meeting that day on appointments.
God has overwhelmed us. Our answer to prayer is better than our request. I have received an appointment from Bishop Ken Carter of the Florida Conference to Edgewater United Methodist Church. It is only twelve miles from Sarah’s home! Our grandson attends high school in New Smyrna Beach which is only four minutes away from us and this is where our granddaughter, Brooklynn, will also be attending. We are overwhelmed by this answer to prayer!
My favorite verse continues to be 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV), “ Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Thank you for your love, support and prayers during our time in Fairfield. We will treasure our five years among you always. We look forward to starting in Florida on July 2, but will always be grateful for our experiences at Fairfield First United Methodist Church.
